"Getting on the list" is one of those phrases everyone uses and few explain. In Madrid the guest list is simply a way to reserve your entry ahead of time: your name (or your group) is registered with the club so the door is expecting you. It is not a VIP table and it is not always free, but it almost always means a smoother, cheaper and faster way in than turning up cold. Here is how it actually works and how to get on ours.
What a club guest list is
A guest list is a pre-registered entry: you sign up before the night, the promoter passes your name to the door, and when you arrive you go to the list line instead of buying at the box office. It gives the club a rough headcount, it gives the door a name to check, and it gives you a defined price and a defined cut-off time. Think of it as booking your spot rather than gambling on availability.
Free list vs. list with a drink
Most Madrid lists come in two flavours. A free list gets you in at no charge, usually only until a certain time and often on the quieter nights or early hours. A list with a drink (con consumición) costs a set amount that includes one drink at the bar — better value than paying entry and a drink separately. Which one is available depends on the club, the night and how early you arrive, so the honest answer to "how much?" is: it depends on the night, and we tell you the exact terms when you sign up.
How late does the list run?
Every list has a cut-off. Free lists tend to close earliest — often before the room fills up — while paid or with-a-drink lists run later. Once the cut-off passes you can still get in, but at door price and in the general queue. The simple rule in Madrid: the earlier you arrive, the better the terms and the shorter the wait. Aim to be there before the peak rather than at it.
