Istar Madrid Dress Code: What to Wear to Get In

Istar, on Calle Serrano in Salamanca, is one of the Madrid rooms people dress up for β€” and the door checks. If you are heading there for an afro house night, this is exactly what the dress code means, what to wear and what to leave at home so the only thing you think about is the music.

The dress code in one line

Smart casual. Istar does not allow trainers, sportswear or ripped jeans, and it expects a polished, put-together look. That is the whole rule β€” everything below is how to get it right without overthinking it.

YesNo
Smart shoes, loafers, bootsTrainers or running shoes
Clean dark jeans or trousersRipped or heavily worn jeans
Shirt, polo, knit or a smart topTracksuits, football shirts, gym gear
A dress or a smart two-pieceBeachwear, shorts with flip-flops

What to wear: men

  • Dark, clean jeans with no rips, or chinos and tailored trousers.
  • A shirt, a fitted polo or a fine knit; an overshirt or jacket works well in autumn and winter.
  • Closed shoes: leather sneakers are the grey area (see below), so loafers, Chelsea boots or minimal leather shoes are the safe bet.
  • Keep it simple: one good piece beats a loud logo.

What to wear: women

  • A dress, a skirt or tailored trousers with a smart top β€” the code is more flexible here.
  • Jeans are fine if they are clean and not ripped, paired with something dressier on top.
  • Footwear you can dance in for hours: heels, block heels, smart flats or boots all work.
  • A light layer for the queue and the walk; the room itself gets warm.

What does not get through the door

  • Trainers and running shoes.
  • Sportswear: tracksuits, football shirts, gym gear.
  • Ripped or heavily worn jeans.
  • Beachwear, shorts with flip-flops, and caps β€” take a cap off before you reach the front.
A night out on the floor at Istar Madrid

Dressing for an afro house night

Istar is a music-led room, and the crowd is grown-up and style-conscious: people come for the DJ and dress like it matters. Think elevated rather than flashy β€” neutral tones, good fabrics, one statement piece. Nights build slowly and peak late, so choose shoes and layers you will still be comfortable in at the end of a long set.

What about trainers?

Istar's policy is no trainers, and that is the line we would follow. Some doors in Madrid let clean leather sneakers through on some nights, but it is never guaranteed and it is not worth a refused entry. If you are unsure about a specific pair or a specific night, message us before you go out and we will tell you straight.

Table or guest list: getting to the door

Dress code applies to everyone, but how you arrive changes the experience. With a VIP table you get priority access β€” show your booking confirmation at the door and you are through quickly. On the list, arrive within the conditions we confirm for your night. Either way, tell us the date and group size and we set it up.
